The Firth Room is named after Horatio Nelson Firth, the receiver of gold in Queenstown. Horatio Nelson Firth and his family lived here between 1889 and 1901 at which point Firth was sent to prison for embezzlement. At this point, his wife Catherine ran the property as a boarding house until it was sold to Winston Royston Ambler.
