Our First MICHELIN Key

In the news 20/09/26

There are some moments in hospitality that make you stop for a minute.

This is one of them.

Hulbert House has been awarded a MICHELIN Key in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection.

For our little eight-room house in Queenstown, it’s a pretty big deal.

Built in 1887, Hulbert House has been welcoming visitors from around the world for almost 140 years. From its early days as the Gold Receiver’s House, through its life as a B&B, backpackers and staff / workers accommodation, to the home it is today – hospitality has always been part of its story.

The MICHELIN Key recognises hotels that deliver an exceptional overall experience, not simply beautiful rooms, but character, service, design, personality and a genuine sense of place.

And that’s what makes this recognition particularly special to us.

In 2026, Hulbert House is one of just nine new properties added to the MICHELIN Key selection in New Zealand, bringing the country’s total to 28.

Small house. Big recognition.

We’re incredibly proud of our team, our owners and everyone who has helped make Hulbert House what it is.

The Key is a new chapter in our story.

But tomorrow, we’ll still be here doing what we’ve always done:
Putting the coffee on. Opening the doors. Welcoming people home to Queenstown.
